Extensive Support:

Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) provides treatment and support services to people with behavioral health challenges and addictive diseases. They also assist individuals who live with developmental disabilities. This is an agency that administers the Medicaid NOW and Comp waivers.

Highland Rivers Health (formerly known as Cobb Community Services Board) provides Mental Health Services, Intellectual & Developmental Services, and Child and Adolescent Services.

Marcus Autism Center is an inclusive resource for children with autism providing guidance to caregivers through parent training programs, family support services, or one-on-one intensive therapy. The center offers Individualized treatment programs such as feeding, toileting, language, and behavior therapy.

Bobby Dodd Institute provides a direct support system for assistance with daily living activities to maintain family stability and independence in the community, provides family support to obtain services, and provides benefits counseling.

Cam and Madi’s Promise Incorporated (C.A.M.P) assists families in securing the medical and therapeutic services their children often require through the Katie Beckett and NOW/COMP waivers.

McKenna Farms Therapy Services provides therapeutic programs for children with special needs and their families, including regularly scheduled parent meetings on a variety of topics to help families navigate disability services.

Beyond Limits Therapeutic Riding provides therapeutic horseback riding and other services for children and adults to promote and enrich their physical, developmental, psychological, and social well-being to encourage them to reach beyond limits.

Focus + Fragile Kids offers comfort, hope, and fun to children and teens who are medically fragile or have physical and/or significant developmental disabilities.

Gigi’s Playhouse provides free therapeutic programming and support to families of individuals with Down Syndrome which addresses the developmental needs in the areas of gross motor, fine motor, intellectual, social, and communication development.

ReClif is a fitness-based therapy and community center designed to empower individuals with autism and the loved ones who support them. They offer yoga & therapeutic yoga, special fit, interactive metronome, spelling to communicate, fit light, music therapy, and specialized program tracks.

Camp Twin Lakes provides weeklong summer camps and year-round weekend retreats at three fully accessible and medically-supportive campsites, day camps, and through hospital-based Camp-to-Go programs. Providing life-changing camp experiences to thousands of Georgia’s children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and other life challenges.

 

Advocacy:

The ARC Georgia provides assistance with self-advocacy, benefits, early intervention, education & training, employment, transportation, future planning, housing, resources, and technical assistance.

The Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta (DSAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, early intervention, education, awareness, and advocacy for persons with Down syndrome and their families.

Georgia Advocacy Office Inc.’s mission is to work with and for oppressed and vulnerable individuals in Georgia who are labeled as disabled or mentally ill to secure their protection and advocacy.

 

Legal Support:

Atlanta Legal Aid Society provides free civil legal help to individuals who cannot afford a private attorney. The foundation may be able to assist with guardianship and SSI/SSDI issues.

Burgess & Christensen’s legal team specializes in social security disability, guardianship, and special needs trusts.

Harrison &Held, LLP integrates traditional estate planning tools with the use of discretionary and special needs trusts, letters of intent and future-care planning.

Mass Mutual Financial Group specializes in estate planning tools, including wills, powers of attorney, and life insurance trusts for people with special needs.
